Carina nebula, composite image. This is an emission nebula contains the hypergiant star Eta Carinae (upper centre, bright). Eta Carinae is 100 times as massive and a million times as bright as the Sun and is one of the most massive and brightest stars in the Milky Way. The Carina Nebula lies around 10,000 light years from Earth in the constellation Carina. This composite image spans the visible and infrared parts of the spectrum. Blue areas are not obscured by dust, while red areas are hidden behind dark clouds of dust in visible light. Visible light in the blue part of the spectrum from the Digital Sky Survey is represented as blue, near infrared light from the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) is green, and infrared observations from the Infrared Array
