'Boiler explosion'. The remains of Manuel Fajardo- a martyr of the revolution. This 1916-built Baldwin 2-8-0 worked at Cuba's Obdulia Morales sugar mill. During the 1980s the engine's boiler burst. The driver, who was oiling the motion at the time, was literally blown to pieces- only his legs were found. The engine's bell, seen in the foreground, was recovered from a cane field a quarter of a mile away. The sound was described by local people as being like an aircraft passing through the sound barrier. A picture made on Sunday 24 April 1988.
