The hypselo- dont Eocardia and Schistomys, both adequately known from Scott's work, are the only common eocardiids. Both forms, and also the rooted Phanomys, may well have been derived from Chuhutomys. The phylogeny of the family may be tentatively expressed as shown in Figure 25.
