More than 100 brass bands, most from the Uk, but several from the rest of Europe, descend on a group of villages near Saddleworth Moor close to Manchester in the UK to compete in what the organisers call 'the greatest free show on Earth' Each venue has its own paricular rules and the contests are open to all comers, so nationally known bands will play alongside local youth bands.
