Although there are undoubtedly advantages in purchasing trees close at hand, the theory that apples propagated in a district become acclimatized has not been borne out in practice. Trees of Mcintosh propagated in the south are as hardy when transported to the north as those propagated in that area, providing they are propagated on hardy root-stocks Other things being equal, however, there is a distinct advantage in the stock close at hand, as it allows an opportunity to inspect the trees and to have any necessary replacements made.
