Blue sky oblique portrait 1927 City of Lima wall memorial General San Martin's Liberation Peru, Cerro Gloria, Mendoza, Argentina

The 3500-6000 men of Argentinian General San Martin's Army of the Andes assembled at Mendoza before a 25 day Andean crossing via the Uspallata Pass to free Chile from Spanish Colonial Rule in 1817. The main Monument, celebrating the centenary in 1914, was designed by the Uruguayan sculptor, Juan Manuel Ferrari. This large ornamental bronze plaque, fixed to a memorial wall near the main monument is a 1927 'thankyou' from the City of Lima to General Jose San Martin and the Army of the Andes for the Liberation of Peru 1820-21.
