The Temple of Dendur is an Egyptian temple that was built by the Roman governor of Egypt, Petronius, The temple was commissioned by Emperor Augustus of Rome and has been exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York since 1978. Dendur Temple was given to the United States by Egypt in 1965 in recognition of the assistance furnished by the US in the rescue of Nubian temples
