Breeds in Lake County (Toppan). Mr. J. G. Parker records them breeding near the State line in Lake County, also. He says they " leave for the South very early, generally by the last of July or first of ; I have shot them near the State line in Cook County, Illinois, late in May. Family Avocets and Stilts. Philohela minor (ffmcl.). American Woodcock. Resident in tlie southwestern part of the State, and summer resident through- out the remainder. Common in suitable localities. They pass northward in.
