There has l>een a better tone to the market the past week, there having been a number of large social events that kept the market fairly well cleaned of all fancy stock and the quality is excellent for the season. Roses are plentiful; Sunburst. Mrs. Ward, Pink Killarney and White Kil- larney are good sellers, and Mrs. Shaw- yer and Mrs. Russell, as well as Had- ley, are neck and neck in the race with the old favorites. Mrs. Shawyer is certainly a fine large flower and looks as if it would hold its own with any of them in its color. Carnations are fast getting up to the winter standard, but prices do not advance much. Violets are the scarcest thing in the market, New York doubles be- ing in very small supply. Good sin- gles are also scarce. There is plenty of valley, and cattleyas are also in full supply. Bonnaffon and Maud Dean are leaders amongst the chrysanthe- mums, but another week will almost finish them. There are still quite a number of good pompons about. There seems to be more of a demand for box- wood bushes this year than ever; all the old bo
