Costume of a Commis Marchand (assistant merchant), Incroyable. Bicorn with cockade, redingote (frock coat) with wide lapels, short gilet (waistcoat), cravat covering the face to the nose, high breeches. Handcoloured etching by Auguste Etienne Guillaumot Jr. from Costumes of the Directory, Rouquette, Paris, 1875. The etchings were made from designs by Eugene Lacoste and Draner after prints of the era 1795-99. The costumes are from theatre productions Merveilleuses and Pres Saint-Gervais by Victorien Sardou.
