View N of Dun Ringill Iron Age galleried dun on a sea cliff above the W shore of Loch Slapin, Strathaird, Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK. Considered by some to be the remains of a circular broch, but more likely to have been built as a D-shaped dun or semibroch: a drystone fort with broch features including a long entrance passage with door checks & bar holes, a large corbelled cell within the walls & traces of an upper level mural gallery. Steep-sided inlets either side of the promontory dictate the landward approach from the NW where the entrance is located. By the C14th the dun had been refashioned with structures added using lime mortar. Reputed to be the first home on Skye of the Clan Mackinnon chiefs, in the mid 1500s it was included in a list of six 'castells' on Skye by Dean Munro.
