Vief From Outside, Bardan Gompa

Zanskar is a valley which lies in the eastern half of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Together with the neighboring region of Ladakh, Zanskar was briefly a part of the kingdom of Guge in Western Tibet. Zanskar is home of small villages and isolated monasteries. Its administrative center is a village named Padum. Bardan Monastery dates from the 17th-century. It lies approximately 12 kilometers south of Padum. It belongs to the Dugpa-Kargyud monastic order and was one of the first monasteries of this sect to be established in Zanskar.
