Giinthers Modification of Pirogoffs Operation. — The incisionacross the front of the ankle is the same as in the previous opera-tion; the lower incision, which passes through the sole of the foot,instead of passing vertically downward is directed obliquely down-ward and forward; upon the inner side of the foot this incision passesjust behind the tubercle of the scaphoid, and a similar obliquity is alsoobserved upon the outer side of the foot, the incision striking justbehind the tuberosity of the base of the fifth metatarsal. The softparts are dissected back, away from the bones, for a short distance, and,as in the previous operation, the ankle-joint is freely opened and
