Hewore no clothing except a narrow strip ofcloth round his loins, for the purpose ofpassing a spear through, or any other articlehe might wish to carry. On reaching the deck the old man wasmost frantic in his gesticulations, leapingabout from place to place, and using themost vociferous exclamations at everythinghe saw. All attempts at conversation withhim were entirely useless, as we could notpersuade him to stand still for a single sec-ond.
