Vesle, a French war dog, was captured by the Germans in July 1918 near Chateau Thierry. After several weeks in captivity, he swam the Vesle river and joined two American war correspondents who adopted him. He accompanied them to various battlefield locations, never deserting his new friends. Vesle was wounded when he initially joined the Americans and is now in Paris with his adopted benefactors, attending the Peace Conference.
