The seed was fromcotton cultivated in Oklahoma, and was planted early inApril. The yellow and pink blossoms remained but a dayor so, dropping off to reveal the small green bolls. Thesesteadily developed and, as the frost was late this year, at-tained something like maturity. The accompanying pho-tograph was taken late in October. The cotton measuredtwo inches across. This is the first time, out of severaltrials, that the cotton has matured, as the early frost has. COTTON GROWN IN CHICAGO. heretofore always killed the plant before it could fullydevelop. — R. I suggest that our Northern readers try plant-ing cotton-seed in earth in a box or a flower-potin the house early in April, and then transplant-ing to the garden about the middle of May.
