BRACHYTHERAPY

Photo essay from hospital. Brachytherapy at the Hôpital Saint Louis in Paris. Brachytherapy is one type of treatment for breast cancer. It uses radioactive iridium wires placed directly in the tumor or in the area from which the tumor was removed. This technique can also be used to deliver an additional dose to the scar, an area which is susceptible to relapse. Here we see the beginning of the brachytherapy session, just prior to catheter insertion.
