The supraoccipital is very large and is separated into two distinct regions—a subcircular anterior region, contained between frontals and the anterior half of the parietals, and a posterior vase-shaped region of about three times the length of the anterior part and occupying a little more than a third the breadth of the skull. The inflation of the periotic capsules gives the posterior region.
