Construction of the lower concourse linking the new Jubilee Line's London Bridge stations, part of London's Tube network.
The construction works in the congested urban area around London Bridge on the Jubilee Line Extension Project, the newest part of the London Tube network, were extremely complex. The work was undertaken beneath one of the busiest transport hubs in London with a large number of sensitive buildings and structures situated overhead. Extensive use was made of sprayed concrete techniques (New Austrian Tunnelling Method - NATM) on the rail tunnels and concourses. The Jubilee Line covers ( miles) and serves 27 stations between Stanmore and Stratford. The equivalent statistic for the new extended section is 16km (10 miles) of which km ( miles) is in tunnel and km ( miles) on the surface. Work started on the £ billion project to extend the Jubilee line in December 1993. The extension runs from Green Park to Stratford and was opened in three phases during 1999.
