Rosetta@Home screen saver. Computer graphic showing possible protein shape configurations. Rosetta@Home is a volunteer or distributed computing project designed to predict protein folding and shapes, as found in nature. Volunteer computing allows scientists to replicate supercomputing power by utilising the idle time of personal computers owned by the public. Data is sent to a user via the internet and the screen saver performs calculations when the computer is unused. The results are sent back to a base server. The results will help scientists learn more about diseases and could lead to new drugs and cures. Rosetta@Home runs on the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC).
