The gaur is the largest, being fully six feet high at the withers. It is found in all the large Indian forests south of the Hima- layas, and is known to sportsmen as the Indian bison. It is very shy, and has never been domesticated. The gayal has not yet been found wild, though semi-domesti- cated individuals occur in Spain and parts adjacent. Its light-coloured legs, which look as if the animal had on white stockings, give the creature a very singular appear-.
