Fishing boats moored amid mudflats and a foreshore piled with seaweed as the apricot dawn sky brightens over the River Étel estuary in south Morbihan, Brittany, France. The Île de Saint-Cado, an islet linked to the shore by a causeway, was the home in the 500s AD of Welsh Christian missionary, Saint Cado or Cadoc the Wise, and a 12th century Romanesque church is dedicated to him.
Saint-Cado, Morbihan, Brittany, France: wet mudflats reflect the apricot glow of dawn while small open fishing boats with outboard motors bob in the tidal waters of the River Étel estuary near the causeway linking a circular islet, the Île de Saint-Cado, to the shore. On the island, the picturesque hamlet of Saint-Cado has ancient cottages, home to many generations of fishermen, and a 12th century medieval church built in the Romanesque architectural style. The Chapelle Saint-Cado de Belz is dedicated to the early Christian missionary and Welsh Celtic saint variously known as Saint Cado, St. Cadoc the Wise, St Cadog or Cadocus, who lived here for a time in the 6th century AD.
