Portuguese atlas title page. Ornate decoration and titles on the title page of 'Taboas geraes de toda a navegacao' (1630), an atlas produced by Portuguese cartographer Joao Teixeira Albernaz I (active 1602-1648). Three globes are shown across top, with putti bearing cartographic and navigational instruments (dividers and quadrant), either side of a coast-of-arms and crown. The name of the map-maker is at lower centre, where is is named as the royal cosmographer. Albernaz was the most prolific Portuguese cartographer of the seventeenth century.
