King Vulture ( Sarcoramphus papa) very close


The Royal Condor (Sarcoramphus papa) is found from Mexico to northern Argentina. Its distribution includes Mexico, Central America, Colombia (uncommon in the Choco), Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Argentina. It is not very sociable. Usually it is alone. It is possible that when eating two or three of them are in the same place. Anida voids in the trees, in caves and in the soil under the protection of a plant with thorns. The nest egg consists of a creamy white. Both parents are involved in incubation. This condor feeds on carrion. The sense of smell is not sufficiently developed in order to locate their food. Rather look at the zamuros and takes this opportunity once they find food. Moves to zamuros when eating. Among the vultures American Royal Condor is medium in size. It is not as big as the Andean condor or the California condor, but much more than zamuros. The measured length of 70 to 85 cm with a wingspan in the wings nearly two meters (198 cm). In the weight achieves exceed kilograms, which is considerable for a bird's flight. The genres are of similar appearance. In adults dominates the white plumage.
