Mucous layer of the gallbladder, light micrograph. There are a large number of folds oriented towards the lumen (top right). The folds have a connective tissue axis, belonging to the lamina propria, covered by a simple columnar epithelium. In the lower part of the image there are bundles of smooth muscle cells belonging to the muscular layer. Magnification: x180 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
