I found there a new church, and one hundred and thirty-four other times, they areaccustomed to come overthe River here, to thehearing of the were madewith Mr. Selyn to officiateat regular intervals, andhe commenced his servicesOctober 2, 1682, and con-tinued to perform hisduties faithfully until ministers, however, oflficiated on the Lords Dayduring this time. In 1699 Rev. Gualtherus Duboisbecame a colleague with Mr. Selyn in the church atNew York, and he thereafter performed the servicesin the Bergen church for more than half a 2, 1700, he dispensed the Lords Supper,and continued his ministrations until 1751-. DR. DUBOIS. Chapter XXXVI. THE CHURCH. In 1750, the congregation, feeling their need of astated pastor, determined to use their utmost endeavorsto secure one. They arranged with the church onStaten Island to extend a joint call to one who shouldminister to the two congregations, and finally extendeda call to one Petrus De Wint. In his call, the con-ditions were specified as a righteous half of servicesand a righteous half of payment, as he was tominister to the two churches, of Bergen and StatenIsland. The church at Bergen was to furnish himwith firewood and a parsonage, and that at StatenIsland was to give him an able riding horse with allthat belongs to it.
