Grimspound. A late Bronze Age settlement on Dartmoor, Devon, UK. Dating from around 1300 BC, this large site consists of 24 stone huts surrounded by a huge granite stone wall. It was first documented by the Rev. Richard Polwhele in 1797. He named it Grimspound, based on ancient mythology. The original name of the settlement is unknown. Unfortunately, during a major excavation of the settlement in 1893, the site was partly reconstructed and stones re-positioned. This would certainly not be allowed today. This impressive and atmospheric site is situated on The Two Moors Way path, an ancient route across the moor.
