In 1874 he firstbecame connected with Rush as Lecturer on Theory and Practice of Medicine, which position he held until 1881,when hewas elected Adjunct Professor of Principles and Practice of Medicine. The next year he obtained the additional Pro-fessorship of Hygiene, which was soon exchanged for the Professorship of Pathology.
