Robinson was born in New-York. He was a cadet at the U. S. Military Academyfrom July i, 1835, to March 14,1838. He was appointedsecond lieutenant of the Fifth Infantry October 27, served at Madison Barracks, New York, to May,1840, and at Green Bay, Wisconsin, to 1841, when hewas en route to Florida. After serving at Fort Bradyand at Mackinac, Michigan, until 1845, he joined theArmy of Occupation of Mexico, and was at CorpusChristi, Texas, to September, 1845. He participated inthe Mexican war, and was engaged at Palo Alto, Resacade la Raima, and Monterey, and then on the march toand occupation of the City of Mexico via Saltillo, PointIsabel, and Vera Cruz. He was promoted first lieutenantJune 18, 1846. While in Mexico, Lieutenant Robinsonapplied for the appointment of assistant application was indorsed by General Worth
