This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Ozone mapping. Composite image of the European Remote Sensing satellite (ERS-2) monitoring global ozone levels. The colours on the globe represent the concentration of ozone in the upper atmosphere: red and yellow represent high levels whilst blue shows low levels (the ozone hole). ERS-2 carries a spectrometer which monitors visible and near-ultraviolet light to determine ozone levels. The ozone data shown here was gathered by the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) instrument aboard an American satellite.
