His mother, Emily (Aylsworth) Rothwell, daughter ofJudge Eh Alysworth, was a woman who exerted a deep moral in-fluence on her son, and who strove to better his interests in everyway. Mr. Rothwell is of Enghsh descent on both sides, his father, of awell-to-do English family, coming to America in 1841. His ma-ternal ancestor, Arthur Aylsworth, came from England to Massa-chusetts in 1681. James Eli Rothwell was surrounded by the influences which arepotent in developing honorable character.
