The Long Room, The Old Library, Trinity College, Dublin, Eire, Irish Republic

At nearly 65 meters in length, the Long Room houses of Trinity College Library’s oldest books. .built between 1212 and 1732, the long room originally had a flat plaster ceiling and housed books only on the lower level. In 1860, after the shelves were full, the roof was raised and the barrel-vaulted ceiling was added, along with the upper level shelves. Amongst other reassures, the long room houses one of the few remaining copies of the 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic which was read outside the General Post Office on 24 April 1916 by Patrick Pearse at the start of the Easter Rising.
