Scalp of a 2 year old female patient with aplasia cutis congenita (ACC). ACC is a rare congenital (present at birth) condition where an area of skin is missing. It most often affects the scalp. The cause is not always known, but it may be genetic or due to teratogenic drugs. Small lesions usually heal spontaneously, but larger lesions may need surgical repair.
