The Rev. A, A. Duncan, Auchterless,seconded. The motion was agreed to unanimously. Dr Spence stated that he had intended tomovo another motion, but since hearing thecase, he had departed from his intention. Parties acquiesced in the Synods decision. XXII— WOODSIDE PARISH Woodside Parish Church. This church is now merely one amongmany Parish Churches in the city of Aber-deen, but it has a history peculiarly itsown. Some features of it are, indeed, quiteunique in their way. It was in the year 1828 that the firststeps were taken for the erection of aPresbyterian Church at Woodside, the re-ligious wants of the district having up tothat time been supplied mainly by theWesleyan Methodists and the Congrega-tionalists. The Wesleyans fell into dis-repute with the people by bringing afemale to address meetings ; but the Con-gregationalists were more fortunate, andin 1819 they built a small church knownas Cotton Chapel, which was the precursorof the Congregational chapel of bulk of the inhabitants of the districtwere, however, Presbyterians, and the in-convenience of having no place of worshipof their own persuasion nearer than Old-machar Cathedral or Gilcomston Chapel ofEase was severely felt.
