Astronaut chess game on the ISS. NASA astronaut Greg Chamitoff (born 1962) playing a game of chess in the Harmony node of the International Space Station (ISS). Chamitoff was a flight engineer for part of Expedition 17 and part of Expedition 18, and was on the ISS from June to November 2008. This game, using hook and loop fastener to prevent loss of the pieces, was played over several weeks during Expedition 17. Black was played in turn by the six ground control centres (two in the USA, two in Europe, one in Russia, and one in Japan). Chamitoff (White) is awaiting Black's 18th move from the ATV-CC. Chamitoff won on move 30. Photographed on 19 July 2008.
