Domestic solar panelling built into the roofline of a row of houses. Each solar, or photovoltaic, panel is made up of many solar cells that convert light into electrical energy. The cells are made from a semiconductor. When light hits the semiconductor it releases electrons that are picked up by a grid of wires and form an electrical current. Solar power is an environmentally friendly energy source.
