Kemmerer, Wyoming - Fossil Butte National Monument. The fossil of a softshell aquatic turtle (Plastomenus thomasii) is among fossils on display at the visitor center. Huge numbers of fossils of fish and other plant and animal life have been recovered from Fossil Lake, which covered the area 52 million years ago.
