Saxony: A helmet of 1843 pattern for officers, of horse artillery, as worn until 1867. A leather skull with lateral reinforcing bands, adorned by a plate bearing the cypher "IR" (King Johann, 1854 - 1873), with a brass band with oak leaf pattern ornament beneath it. A crest of horsehair (some of the attachment fittings are replacements). Chinscales with stamped ornament are attached to lion's head bosses. The liner is missing.
