Young grizzly cub in sedge grass meadow, Khutze Inlet, mid-coast British Columbia

In the late spring and early summer the snow melt from the high snow fields of the Great Bear Rainforest floods the river estuaries at the heads of the long fjords and leads to a luxuriant growth of sedge grasses and wildflowers. The grizzly bears come out of hibernation and feed on the protein rich sedge grasses in the meadows at the head of the inlets.
