Hermanos (brothers) sculpture by Igor Mitoraj, Saint Tropez, France


Igor Mitoraj was a Polish artist best known for his fragmented sculptures of the human body. Many of his works are designed for large-scale venues and depict the challenges of 20th Century Europe. Born on March 26, 1944 in Oederan, Germany, Mitoraj grew up in Poland and attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He later studied in Paris,and enrolled at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1968. Mitoraj died on October 6, 2014 in Paris, France at the age of 70.
