Besides operating thecams it operates the governor, the gasolinepump and the air starting valve, VALVES, Each valve is mounted in aseparate cage placed in the cylinder head, which is very convenient in that a valve canbe removed for regrinding by loosening only twobolts, without disturbing the cylinder head orbreaking the water joint. The valves are ofthe poppet type and are both mechanicallyoperated from the cam shaft by push rods androcker arms. The valves are of a large diameterin proportion to the cylinder bore. The inletvalves are of one piece steel, but the exhaustvalves are of cast iron with steel stems. Flguri 10. Top of cjilnder head. Figure II. Itulliiiii ol <,hiiilir hcail TEST OF I. H. C. GASOLINE ENGIKE GOVERNOR:- The go-vernor is of the fly-ball type and is spring driven from the camshaft, the spring preventing the governor valvefrom being affected by sudden changes of speeddue to shock or jar. This governor is verysensitive and operates the throttle valve whichcontrols the amount and quality of fuel admittedinto the cylinder. This method as used insuresa power stroke for every revolution of theengine. IGNITION, The ignition system is of themake and break type and runs either on batteriesor auto-sparker. The movable electrode is pro-vided with an outer bearing to support the endof the spindle which reduces compression leakage,The lower end of the igniter push rod bears upona steel finger which rides on the ignition cam.^he cam is formed like a spiral with a suddendrop at the end of the revolution. The fingermay be moved horizontally ac
