The annual Round the Island Race around the Isle of Wight, beginning and ending in Cowes, is the fourth largest particiant event in the UK after the London Marathon and the Great North and South runs. Over 1500 yachts compete, the fastest finishing in around three hours and the slowest taking nearly 24 hours
