Loy Krathong, Yee Peng or Yi Peng Festival Chiang Mai Thailand

Most charming of all Thai festivals; the custom of placing handmade floats decorated with flowers and candles on waterways goes back over 700 years to Sukhothai period. In the north “Yee Peng” is celebrated for two nights under the full moon. As the moon rise on the second night, a procession of beautiful maidens and floats parades through the city of Chiang Mai to the Mae Ping River. Thousands of illuminated balloons, drifting off into infinity, taking with them sins and bad thoughts.
