A few houses in the trade have found how good a collector the telegraph com- pany is. Customers who have not re- sjuinded to letters about their overdue accoimts are shocked into .activity by the telegrajih wire. Tlie reason is, jjrob- ably, that the telegram is still looked upon as an urgent message and in- variably gets immediate attention. A letter may be tossed aside without a glance farther than the opening sen- tence: perhaps it is cast into the waste basket without the envelope even be- ing slit, with the remark, "I know
