After completinghis studies there, he studied the classics at St. PaulsLutheran College, at Pittsburgh, Pa. In 1885 took a practical commercial course at DuffsBusiness College at Pittsburgh; entered the businessworld when only sixteen years of age. He managedhis fathers milk business for a number of years andthen, in 1896, organized the Edward E. Rieck Com-pany. This company continued successfully until 1918,when it took over the Mcjunkin, Straight Dairy Com-pany, and reorganized under the firm name of the Rieck,. ^X^^^^^^O /^^ C-*^-*^-^^^^*^^ BIOGRAPHICAL 251 Mcjunkin Dairy Company, by which it is now knownthroughout the State. The factory of this concern, which has since its be-ginning been enlarged many times on account of thesingular growth of the business, is one of the bestequipped plants of its kind in this part of the covers approximately 175,000 square feet of floorspace and has an output of 15,000 gallons of ice-creamevery day. The company employes 1,000 people, andowns 150 large trucks, which deliver their product toall parts of Pittsburgh and vicinity. The company, which has grown enormously in thelast few years under the able management of , is one of the largest manufacturers of ice-creamin Pennsylvania, and its officers are noted for theirstrict honesty, business ability, courtesy with all withwhom they come in contact, and their kindness towardsthose in t
