He retired from officeApril 1, 1829. After his retirement from the presidential office Victoriawas elected Governor of Puebla, which office he resigned tobecome Senator for his native state, Durango. In 1839 he was one of the two plenipotentiaries to negotiatepeace with France, after which he retired to private life anddied March 21, 1843.
