From the Byrd library it passedinto the hands of William Stith, president ofWilliam and Mary College, who used it inwriting his History of Virginia, published atWilliamsburg in 1747, one of the most admir-able of American historical works. From Stithshands the manuscript passed to his kinsman,Peyton Randolph, president of the ContinentalCongress, and after his death in 1775, ThomasJefferson bought it.
