Colonel John D. Noble, Commanding Officer of MAG-12, prepares to have his shirt tail cut off as a result of being the first pilot to be trapped by the MOREST at MCALF in Chu Lai, Vietnam. Staff Sergeant Robert F. Murray, the arresting gear maintenance NOO, follows the tradition of cutting a handkerchief-size square from Colonel Noble's shirt. This custom, derived from carrier operations, honors the first pilot to land.
