Back view of the Gate of All Nations, Persepolis, Iran. The capital of Achaemenid Persia, Persepolis was begun during the reign of Darius I (522-485 BC) although the majority of buildings are thought to date from the reign of his son Xerxes I (485-465 BC). The city was sacked by Alexander the Great in 330 BC.
