Robert L. Christiansen, American volcanologist. Christiansen runs the scientific monitoring of volcanic activity at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, USA. Yellowstone is famous for its geysers, a type of hot spring where a column of water is ejected upwards into the air from an opening in the ground. These geysers' eruptions are normally regular, but an earthquake in Alaska has disrupted the timings, causing some geysers to erupt more frequently and others less so. This may be a sign of a potential eruption of the volcano lying beneath the national park. Christiansen was also Scientist-in-Charge and led the team of scientists who monitored the volcano Mount St. Helens during its devastating 1980 eruption in Washington State, USA.
